OK, I like the look of the shoes and the toe box fits my feet better than any of the other 8 barefoot brands I now own.
I ordered my usual size 10 and found the insole has more cushion than I have become accustomed to, so I took it out, and the shoe felt good.
I went on a 30 min walk, and half way out I knew I had a problem.
The top edge of the back of the shoes chaffed the skin off both my achilles.
10 days later, they are still scabbed over.
I find this issue is due to at least 3 reasons.
First, the heel of the shoes curves inward or cupps the foot more than any of my other shoes and the top of the heel is higher.
Second, the shoe liner material texture in contact with my skin is somewhat rougher than simular shoes I own,
Lastly, by taking out the insole, I changed the contact point of where the top of the heel contacted my skin to a higher point and that did me in.
I am not giving up on the shoes, I have put the insoles back in, and this will help as the the heel of the shoe will contact my achilles in a lower spot.
I will also wear socks at least until the shoe breaks in.
On a side note, I ordered a pair of the elastic shoe laces from Freet.
I do not urge anyone to order them. One of the laces was defective, and I noticed they are the same laces that came with a pair cheap Chinese shoes I own.
A quick email to Freet and they immediately refunded the price of the laces to me.
There are $11 elastic laces on Amazon that are 2x the quality of the ones Freet offers as an accessory.
I am hopeful that I can raise the stars of this shoe as the foot bed is so right for my feet.
