Sizing True (i)

This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.
Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Second Pair of Richmonds

I wore out my first pair after many miles and a few years. The Richmond is the best combination of casual style, comfort and reasonable price I could find in barefoot shoes. My only quibble with Richmond is the extra long shoe laces...though I think that may be a plus for others. I have three other Freet models on the shoe rack - Tundra, Nimbus, and a now discontinued light hiker.

Gorgeous unisex boots with high comfort, quality & looks in a lovely leather

Delighted with my new boots!

I tried a the original Richmond but returned as the heel area was too loose for my (dainty woman's!) ankle. I'm always looking out for a nice-looking minimal shoe that I can wear with a frock, so thought i'd give the updated Richmond a whirl ... and I'm really glad I did!

The ankle is much better fitting, and feels as if its going to hold its shape with wear. I was slightly wary when I first tried them on as - unlike all my many other Freets - they felt a bit stiff. However, they softened up nicely after pottering about the house in them for a day. They fit true-to-size.

Apart for the usual Freet 'barefoot' credentials (zero toe-drop, room for toe spead, super-flexible) what I particularly like about Richmond is:
- simple, non-sporty design that looks good with a skirt too
- super quality, soft matt leather
- sewn-in tongue (no tongue slip!)
- unusual & absolutely gorgeous colour - mid brown almost veering to khaki-brown.

My only suggestion for an improvement would be a wee loop or tag at the heel to help with putting on.

Fancified with some light brown & black striped laces, my Richmonds are set to be the perfect footwear for the coming Spring.

Beautifully made shoe, not for low volume feet

This is a beautifully made shoe. Truly barefoot/minimalist sole that still has good grip and a gorgeous leather upper. Unfortunately I have low volume feet, so these are a little tricky for me. Also, listen to their sizing recommendations. Since the toe box is roomy, you don't need as much extra length as you may in conventional shoes.

so far so good

So far I love the fit. nice wide toes box. you can even comfortably wear toe spreaders while wearing these shoes. very comfortable and I know the leather will be very nice after they break in.

First-time barefoot shoe purchase

I bought these for a friend and this is what he told me:

Comfy, light-weight and funky-looking. The material is impressively strong, yet supple. The tongue of one of the boots dug in to the top of my foot at first but softened after a couple of short walks. 4.5/5
