This shoe fits small: consider a larger size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits small to size; if you sometimes have to go up a size, it is more likely that you may need to go up a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.

Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Very comfortable trail shoes.

These are my absolute favourite shoes for walking on trails and in the forest in the cool season. The sole is just thick enough so that it is not uncomfortable to walk on gravel, but thin and flexible enough to give a true barefoot feel. The last is just right for my feet, not too narrow, not too wide. Much nicer than the Merrell Trail Glove. I have them in size 45, which is my normal size. The only downside is, that they are quite sweaty, because they are waterproof, but the waterproofing is also a big benefit of this model. That's a necessary trade-off. Not a critique. These are great for autumn and spring, and even in winter, as long as there is not too much snow. Not suitable for the summer, IMHO. I wish they made an identical model on the same last, but with a very breathable mesh for the summer, like the Merrell Vapor glove. I'd buy those too!

Another Freet win

I followed the site recommendation to go up a size as others have noted that the Connect 3 tends to fit small. However, as another reviewer mentioned, I found this to be way too big. My normal size is 39 and I was swimming in the Connect 3 40. Given how big it felt and my habit of removing the insole, I decided to return and replace with a 38 (one size down from my normal). I am glad I made this decision. The result was a perfect fit. I have not tested it in wet weather yet, but find them to be very comfortable with sturdy yet flexible soles with good ground feel. I like the uniqueness of the bottle yarn upper and I like that the sole turns up on the toe for a tough "bumper." They will be great rugged walking and trail shoes for multiple weather conditions, but also look good enough for hanging out in a casual setting. Thanks, Freet!

Great shoes

This is my second pair and so far I love these shoes.

Sizing is off for me

These shoes are GREAT for waterproof and I love that the toe box is wider than the Merrell Trail Glove. However, I feel like I am swimming them. The website says that it's recommended to size up based on user reviews, and I am a W 8.5, so I got the W 9, and I fear it is too big. My smaller foot feels like it is barely hanging on inside the shoe. I will be waiting for a restock and likely purchasing a W 8.

Fit well, look great, and keep the water out. Hoping they wear well as they will be getting a lot of use.
