The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits large to size; if you sometimes have to go down a size, it is more likely that you may need to go down a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.

Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

First Freet experience, great shoe!

I recently purchased my first pair of Freet shoes. (Not new to barefoot shoes, but new to Freet). I needed a smarter pair than I own for a conference I will be attending and was excited when I noticed the York in your Offers section. I went down a size as recommended. I really love the look and feel, the supple soft and flexible leather, the wide toe box, the grippy sole. I like to take the insole out to maximize ground feel. I did notice some persistent rubbing on my achilles by the top portion of the rear upper after my first long walk in them, but after wetting them and treating them with Nikwax (as recommended by care instructions in the packaging) that issue resolved. The York is a well made shoe and I will definitely peruse the Freet website when I'm in need of a new pair of shoes in the future.

I have found the York shoes so comfortable to walk in.

I have wide feet and a high arch, plus small toes so my feet are wide yet compact. I have found the York shoes so comfortable to walk in. I love the feeling of spreading my toes and feeling the ground beneath me! I take a 38 and occasionally a 39 in normal shoes but tried a 40 in Freet size. I found that this was fine for size, especially in the width. The only thing I'd like to change is that the leather around the back of the shoe feels rougher on my skin than I expected. I found the York a nice looking shoe and I really like wearing them when I have to look smartish. I am so happy I have found a barefoot company that genuinely caters for wide feet like mine, as many barefoot companies actually don't. I came to barefoot shoes having developed a Morton's Neuroma and they are really helping keeping me mostly asymptomatic. Thank you Freet!

Thank you a million times for everything!

My new York shoes (replacement for Tangas) have just arrived! They are blissfully comfortable, and despite my problems with balance, I feel secure in them in a way I’ve never experienced before. I’m tremendously grateful to you for your advice; ordering one size larger than usual was the perfect decision - they’re quite roomy (oh, the joy of being able to spread your toes!) and will be fabulous both with bare feet and thick socks.
