Sizing Small (ii)

This shoe fits small:consider a larger size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits small to size; if you sometimes have to go up a size, it is more likely that you may need to go up a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

The lengths shown are the Insole lengths (the actual shoe length will be 2 or 3 mm longer). The widths are measured across the flex point of the insole. The actual width of the shoe will be 2-4mm greater at each side of the shoe.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Comfortable Leather Boot

These are my second pair of Mudee L boots. I sized down a half size from last pair and achieved better fit. The L2 were comfortable out of the box and did not need much break in. There is plenty of toe room for my narrow foot and I can get a secure fit across the arch. As others have noted, the tongue does bunch up a bit if you cinch down the laces for a tight fit but it has not caused any discomfort for me. One of the boots has a bottom style lace ring installed near the top which looks a little odd but seems to work ok. The gum colored sole looks good and does not show soiling. I have not had occasion to test the water proof properties. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase and hope to get many miles out of them.

Just the right amount of sole, but Thick tongue and a little wide

These seem well made and my number one requirement is that they be waterproof and so far they are. I live in an area that should have a lot of rain (but we don’t at the moment as we are suffering a drought), but still have a lot of dew in the mornings. Enough that it will soak shoes, socks and pants when out walking through the woods and meadows, which I do every morning. Also, my walks are not on paths, but cross country over roots, etc., so I like a little extra protection than some barefoot shoes provide, but not so much I lose the ground contact. These hit that sweet spot nicely. What I don’t like about them is the width and tongue. Even though I like a wide toe box, my feet are rather narrow, and Mudee L2 is a little wide for me. And my biggest complaint is the tongue. It is so thick and the way it is sewn in makes it very hard to tuck in between the two sides of the uppers. So the tongue just bunches up. It is quite unsightly, although the deer and turkeys don’t care (these are not town shoes), but it can be a little uncomfortable and makes it hard to really snug down the laces.

Great True Barefoot Boot!

Best boots ever! So glad to finally find a true foot shaped "barefoot" boot! Soft broken in leather right out the box. Hope they offer a solid rubber outsole in the future instead of the nodes outsole. Regardless, will buy again!

Good First Impression.

ok, this is too early to give a proper review, i dont like first impression reviews. i have only worn them 3 or 4 times. So far, the sole is tough feeling and gives more protection than the internet would lead you to believe for a barefoot shoe. there has been decent reviews of Freet shoes being used for backpacking and with good results. the leather is beautiful. almost too beautiful, i dont want to get them dirty. they look like a proper shoe as well. they are suprising light for a leather hiker. they are definely warmer than the Tundra boot i just burned through. hopefully not too hot but i havent had a leather hiker for 5 years or so but they probably all are hot compared to Tundra. they dont seem to require any break in time either. so first impressions are good. time to beat the trail and get some miles on them.

Nicely spacious around the forefoot

Nicely spacious around the forefoot, which is always a problem zone for my "duck feet", even with barefoot shoes. I found the shoe uncomfortably hard around the top of my midfoot though, but that changed after a few hours of wearing. Because it's a leather shoe it does need a bit of breaking in. The sole is much thicker than I'd normally choose in a barefoot shoe, but I need them for rugged stony ground in the Spanish mountains, so it's exactly what I wanted.
