This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All US sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

The lengths shown are the Insole lengths (the actual shoe length will be 2 or 3 mm longer).

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.

Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Warm, Waterproof and Comfortable

I bought these having suffered chilly toes in my Tundras on a sub-zero evening showing friends the starry night for a couple of hours. Not quite as bedroom-slipper-comfortable as the Tundras, but still the sort of comfort that, after les than a minute you're not conscious of somethign on our feet. These are much more like "conventional" boots, in that you don't have quite the ground-feel that you get wite all my other barefoot shoes (but still better than "normal"walking boots) - but that is part of what enables them to be warmer.

So far, they seem robust, waterproof - and, with thick socks, sufficiently warm down to at least -5°C. Much below that, and I can resort to my Kamiks.

Fällt sehr klein aus, ansonsten ein schöner und praktischer Winterstiefel

Normalerweise habe ich Schuhgröße 45 und manchmal 46. Beim Arken 2 habe ich Schuhgröße 47 gebraucht. Meiner Ansicht nach liegt es einerseits an der Fütterung, was den Schuh innen schmäler macht. Andererseits kommt es mir so vor, als ob die neuen Modelle am Vorderfuß grundsätzlich schmäler ausfallen. Letzteres habe ich auch z. B. beim Chamois festgestellt, der mir trotz ausreichender Länge zu schmal war.

Zum Schuh selber, der ist optisch sehr gelungen, hat eine tolle Sohle und ist angenehm zu tragen!!

Exactly as expected from my experience with wearing Free shoes for the past 5 years. High quality, fit for purpose, well designed and super comfortable. These are the most firm shoes I own - which is exactly as they should be given the intended purpose as a high quality walking boot. I trust these to protect my feet on a rocky walk, but generally use them for walking to work on mixed surfaces including tarmac in the rain and cold.

Great winter boots

I bought These ro replace my older fabric Arkens which proved to be too small for heavy winter socks. I sized up the Arken 2 and they are great. Here in Vermont USA it is very cold so I use toe warmers most days. I like the new leather like solid tops material and the tread pattern is way better grip than before. They are warm and waterproof. Excellent
