Our Company

We (Andrew and Sarah) set up Freet Footwear 15 years ago, to produce barefoot shoes which enable people's feet to move and spread naturally.  From our first split-toe shoes, we have evolved and grown to become the leader in performance barefoot shoes.

We continue to own and run the company, personally designing, developing and testing all of our shoes to give the best performance in their individual category.  Whether it is hiking, running, at the gym or wearing the shoes everyday, we individually design all elements of the shoe to suit their purpose. This includes for example, the best outsole, insole, material, fastening and linings to suit their particular purpose. 

We produce our shoes in Vietnam and China, building long term partnerships with our manufacturers and visiting regularly to work together on quality and design.

Our shoes

We believe our feet are amazing miracles of engineering and should be allowed to move naturally.  With this in mind, all our shoes have wide toe boxes to allow your feet to spread and move naturally.   They are fully flexible allowing full foot function and are zero drop (same height at the front of the shoe as the back).

Our Ethics 

Our aim is to produce shoes which give value for money, durability and using materials which minimise the impact on the earth's resources.  We believe in building up long term alliances with partners to ensure that both sides benefit from working together.  We keep close to all suppliers and visit regularly to ensure that we are personally happy with working conditions. 

It is our mission to use as much recycled material as possible, while maintaining quality - see sustainability.  We are constantly looking for materials and were pleased to be an innovator in using recycled coffee grounds.  Our durable outsoles and stitched uppers extend product life, reducing waste.  All our packaging is recyclable. For more information, see Sustainability.  Where possible, if we have faulty shoes, we donate to Shoe Aid, which provides footwear to those without and educates to help reduce landfill. 

We believe in putting back into society with our charitable donations, including Alzheimers Society, The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and Woodland Trust.  We also work with individuals to support individual challenges to raise money for other charities.

Our shoes have ‘less shoe’ in them. Deliberately. We combine the best materials, components and design though, to make your experience the best balance we can between natural movement and fitness for the job you’re on – whether hurtling along a hill trail or practising yoga. Different shoes for different purposes but always ‘less shoe’

People have been around for many thousands of years but most people have only been wearing shoes for hundreds of years. If you look around at small children, who often take their shoes off at every opportunity, you will realise that it is unnatural for our feet to be overly cushioned from the world.

We complain of knee injuries and problems with our feet but we are effectively strangling the astonishing network of muscles, ligaments and nerves which were designed to respond to our movement requirements. We spend most of our lives in shoes with our feet unable to flex and move naturally.

Freet Footwear is founded by a team experienced in the development of performance footwear and in biomechanics. Our mission is to allow feet to operate naturally whilst we go about all our activities – sport, leisure and everyday.
