2nd Pair

Ha, I got this review request and realized I hadn't even tried on my new pair. I compared them to the sizing of my last pair to ensure it was still the same and threw them in the closet until I absolutely can't stand to be seen in public in my old pair (I'm very trusting of this brand I guess). I've now thrown my new pair on and on first inspection/wear they feel to be as good of quality as my last pair. This is a review of my first pair, purchased in 2022 (4 years ago): After four years, I have one small tear in the mesh on each shoe (same place on each shoe which makes me suspect its from rubbing on the shoe shelf), a couple places where holes have worn through the under fabric showing my white socks beneath. The glue has loosened near the toe on only one of the soles and the wear on the soles is visible but acceptable for a 4 year old shoe, I'd say. There's also wear on the back of the shoe opening from me treating them like slip-ons. All expected wear. Otherwise, my old pair is still comfortable and functioning well and I'm happy these shoes lasted me 4 years as my almost exclusive shoe. I'm in them everyday and wear them semi-formal, hiking, walking on sidewalks ... everywhere, I even get compliments (though note I don't use them as work-wear so not as many hours as some people would put them through). I found them suitable to wear much of the winter too with an insole added for extra warmth. I've loved these shoes so even though I know I can now easily find cheaper minimalist shoes on the online marketplace that my friends have recommended, I couldn't be motivated to go through the hassle of remeasuring and hunting for a new shoe when it's so easy to just reorder what you know you love and has worked. My old pair will be retired to home-gym shoes where I anticipate I'll still get a lot of life out of them. The wide toebox is superb and exactly what my feet have needed all my life. If you're new to barefoot shoes, I can't recommend the switch enough (I trialed it for a year wearing 'water shoes', which work as a cheap barefoot shoe but don't breathe well so eventually you'll want to invest in something better). Before I switched to barefoot shoes I had such bad feet/legs (I grew up on weighty Walmart shoes and pre-unevenly-worn hand-me-down shoes), I needed custom orthotics and was buying "sturdy" expensive shoes every few years as a young adult. I seemed to do well with that combo but still had chronic lower backpain which I now realize was from the "slight" heel that's in just about every traditional western shoe. Now my feet have improved so much I can walk across gravel and savour the feeling because it's like a foot massage and my back pain is gone. I'm meeting more and more young people all the time that are switching to barefoot and seeing the benefits. This isn't a fad. It's what we should have been doing for our feet all along. There is a transition period for your feet to adapt and I'd probably add an extra layer of padding to the shoe if working shifts in a mall for example (some floorings weren't made for feet), but I can't recommend the switch enough and as long as Freet maintains their quality workmanship (and keeps Flex in their line for my ease of purchase), I imagine I'll have Freet on my feet for a long time to come. (P.S. to Freet: I love the versatility of the blue, but maybe some more colour choices would be nice if I feel a need for variety in the future -- especially in the kid version. The only reason I haven't bought the kid version is because my son doesn't want to wear miniatures of mom's shoes and the blue is the only colour we love right now.)

Flex

These are very comfortable shoes that I use to practice Tai Chi in and are the second pair I have ordered. Lightweight and flexible, perfect for martial arts. I agree with another reviewer in that they are much better than the Flex 2 which I had to return as they were uncomfortable. Unfortunately the Flex 2 is going to replace these Flex shoes.
