Which Freets do you have, which are your favourite?
I have a pair of Pace which I've used for smart casual dinners but I also have a pair of Swales which I use for everything.
Which features do you particularly like?
I like the half-boot style of the Swales and the stretch around the top means they stay firmly on across a range of terrain and yet slip on and off easily; I never need to touch the laces. Off the trails they are smart enough for the office and stylish enough for wearing out to the bar - I think it's a splendid little adventure shoe.
What do you use your Freets for?
I happily lived in the Swales everyday for most of 2025! I use them for work, fun, hiking, cycling, at the gym, and out and about - the Swales have been great! Very comfortable, truly all-purpose and nicely flexible and breathable.
What is a Freet fuelled memory you have?
I took the Swales on a few days' mountain hiking in the Graubünden region of Eastern Switerland. We skipped the glitz of St. Moritz and headed down the Bregaglia valley, then hiked up to the Albigna mountain hut and the next day over the Casnil Pass to the Forno Valley 12-1400metres of ascent and descent. The quiet lake above the dam and the green of the valleys down below, the ring of snow-draped mountains encircling us and nothing but rock and sky ahead; we were alone on the trail except for a few ibex nimbly flickering across the landscape, they look like mythical mountain-goats, their huge horns bowing with each sure-footed step.
The Swales were ace, it was a decently challenging hike with steep inclines, loose rock, some scrambling, picking through boulder fields and all-in-all some great opportunities for grip testing, the only thing better than wearing them was slipping them off for a dip in the river on the descent back down into the Forno Valley.
What are 3 words to sum up your Freets?
Light, reliable, connection
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I plan to keep using them! As an active travel guide working mostly in Switzerland, the Swales regularly draw curiosity from guests out on the trail, who are usually clomping up hill in freshly-bought, hardly-worn mountain boots while I skipped nimbly along over rocks and scree. I feel light and flexible and actually in touch with the terrain, it has become a pleasure to feel the texture of the trails, and I feel I can better grip and respond to it. Mountain boots now feel like clogs in comparison.
